Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland was a Christian missionary. He taught about the Holy Trinity, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, through the use of the three-leafed shamrock. He is seen in this print with a walking stick or staff which he thrust into the ground when he evangelizing. Legend states that Saint Peter banished all the snakes from Ireland. The serpents, representing temptation and deceit, are shown at his feet.
