D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts
Child at center in white dress, white socks, red shoes parting tall grasses and looking directly at viewer.
Currier & Ives created many sentimental portraits of children. This is one of a four-part series which also includes Little Blossom, Little Snowbird and Little Sunbeam, several of which are on view in this exhibition. In the image, a toddler emerges from the wheat stalks just as a butterfly emerges from its cocoon. On the right, a butterfly clings to a stalk of grain.
