Why is pie the must-have dessert at Thanksgiving? The English colonists who celebrated the first Thanksgiving in Massachusetts in 1621 brought various dessert traditions with them, and the succeeding centuries saw the arrival of a myriad other options, but pie has triumphed at Thanksgiving. This class covers the history of pies, and explores pie fillings and traditions over the centuries. There will be recipes, including one for a calorie-reduced pumpkin pie, and Massachusetts own Marlborough pie, and–of course dishes for sampling.
