Power, Surrender, and Ancestry: Sonya Clark’s Textile Art at deCordova

December 9, 2021 @ 12:15 pm1:30 pm
| Cost: $4 | Cost for Members: $2

In this lecture, Sam Adams, former Curatorial Fellow at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, shares the process of organizing two exhibitions of large-scale textile works by the Amherst-based artist, Sonya Clark. Revisiting Civil War history and narratives of the Underground Railroad, Clark’s powerful projects center lesser-known histories of truce and self-emancipation among Black Americans.

Presented by Sam Adams, PhD, curator and art historian formerly at the Los Angeles Country Museum of Art, the Getty Museum, the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, and deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum.
