Explore ways in which shape and pattern can transcend 2-D surfaces. We will look at the work in the current exhibit Washi Transformed for inspiration where artists have used traditional Japanese papers to create complex sculptures and dramatic installations. Students will use a variety of materials and techniques to manipulate paper, as well as clay. The emphasis will be on the ways color and shape can come together to create repetition, balance, and dynamic 3-D compositions. Bring a snack and lunch. Dress for mess!
