Christmas on a New England Whaler

Whaling Voyages of ships leaving New England ports of the 19th century, could last anywhere from one to five years. In an era when the celebration of Christmas was not universally recognized and crews came from diverse backgrounds, what expectations were there – if any – for a holiday celebration? Based on log book entries, journals and memoirs from those who were there, Dennis Picard, will tell the stories of Christmases missed and those celebrated. And if celebrated by the “blubber hunters,” how.
