Around 1800 Western Massachusetts was swept up in one of the greatest historical transformations of all time, the Industrial Revolution. By 1850 the Pioneer Valley was one of the great manufacturing centers in the country, and its growth continued for decades.
The variety of products made in this region range from stoves and tools to games and radios. Since many of these products were invented here, they are indicative of the incredibly talented people who have lived in this area.
Some of the businesses represented in this exhibit are Milton Bradley, Merriam-Webster, W.F. Young Company, Breck Shampoo and other companies whose products achieved national recognition.
