This Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost was previously owned by S. Prestley Blake, co-founder of Friendly Ice Cream. The Silver Ghost, launched by Rolls-Royce in 1907, was a car esteemed for its smoothness, quiet ride, and durability. To demonstrate this, the Company in 1907 sent an early Silver Ghost to “trials”. During this period, it traveled approximately 14,000 miles back and forth repeatedly between London and Scotland before requiring service. Quiet as a “ghost”, and “silver” for the silver plating decorating its trim, a legend was born. When Rolls-Royce opened a factory in Springfield, production of the Silver Ghost took place until 1926 when Rolls then shifted its production to its flagship luxury car, the Phantom.
