In Ancient Greece, the belief that gods sent a spirit to guide every individual was popular. By the 5th century, Christianity had incorporated the idea of guardian angels into their teaching. The theology of angels and guiding spirits has undergone many refinements over time. However, the belief in both Eastern and Western churches is that a guardian angel behaves as an intercessor for an individual and presents special prayers to God on their behalf. The Guardian Angel., is one of several guardian angel images published by Nathaniel Currier. The prints were popular as people liked to hang them in their homes as a visual reminder of the protection and support a guardian angel provided.
