Black and white of soldiers running after another soldier wearing a dress.
While most presidents were honored with venerable portraits, the President of the Confederate states, Jefferson Davis, was caricatured for his shortcomings. At the end of the Civil War, Davis was the South’s scapegoat for its defeat. This print shows a fleeing Davis wearing a woman’s dress as Union soldiers follow close behind him.
