Among the most popular of Currier & Ives’ images were those that were dedicated to the theme of courtship and marriage. While a majority of the prints promoted positive views of marriage, Currier & Ives also created several prints that reflect the challenges of any relationship. Here, a couple ignores each other after an argument. The argument is soon resolved, however, in the companion print, “The Lover’s Reconciliation.”
