Awful wreck of the STEAM PACKET HOME: on her passage from New York to Charleston, Nathaniel Currier

D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts

Ship, HOME, lying on its side in a stormy sea. Row boats of people in water to left. Remainder of title: ” by which melancholy occurrence ninety-five persons perished.”

Currier & Ives frequently illustrated America’s growing interest in technology and transportation. Unfortunately, steamboats were often dangerous and Currier & Ives did a brisk business with the approximately 50 steamboat disaster prints the firm marketed.
