Hunting/Fishing scene. Two hunters and a dog prepare to leave in canoe. Dog is already in the water. A fisherman steps into his boat and another hunter exits from the woods.
Currier & Ives printed many sporting scenes, a subject matter which sold very well. Louis Maurer was hired by the lithography firm in 1852, when he was 20-years-old. He designed a variety of lithographs and made significant contributions to the company. In 1860, Maurer requested a pay raise because he wanted to get married and start a family. When the raise was denied, he found similar work at the lithography firm, Major & Knapp but continued to work for Currier & Ives on a commission basis. In 1872, Maurer formed a successful commercial venture with F. Heppenheimer and worked there until he retired.
