Big Games, Big Fun

April 29, 2023–September 3, 2023 Wood Museum of Springfield History

Did you know that board game history was made in Springfield, Massachusetts? Milton Bradley invented the Checkered Game of Life here in 1860. It’s just one of many games we still play today.

In this interactive exhibit, enjoy some super-sized fun inspired by classic games. Kids–and adults!–can play a giant Candy Land game, test their strategies on a huge Jenga® or a big Connect-4, use their feet to tickle the keys of an 8-foot piano, play in a big doll house, and create with toy bricks! There are also Milton Bradley puzzles, giant Scrabble, and pinball machines that feature the talents of people from our area like Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, Northampton’s creators of the Ninja Turtles, and Ruth E. Carter, Springfield’s own Academy Award winning designer who created the costumes for the Black Panther movies.
