Painted in oil on wood and canvas in the style of an Old Master, this series of paintings explores the idea of brokenness in communication, relationships, emotion, and ideals through the depiction of ordinary inanimate objects that have been affected by their environment. Destroyed by a catastrophic event, pummeled by daily use, or decayed by the elements, the broken objects are shown caught in a defining moment of resistance. Ludwig sees these broken objects as being figuratively crushed by anxiety and shattered by the weight of the world, much the way that human lives can be shaped and scarred.
Ludwig received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He currently teaches at Springfield College.
