A unique community art project by local artist Sarah Concannon, comprised of 17 portraits each depicting a resident from Springfield’s 17 wards/neighborhoods.
Concannon graduated with a fine arts degree in painting from UMass Dartmouth, and is currently employed at Baystate Health. A native of Plymouth, MA, Concannon has lived in Springfield for seven years, and has been inspired by the city’s diversity and energy.
With funding from an online Kickstarter campaign, Concannon has spent the past year creating the 17 portraits. Her subjects were all chosen “organically,” as she puts it, coming to her through an acquaintance in one case, but mostly at random during her explorations of Springfield’s neighborhoods.
