Field Trip Transportation

Important Info

  • Many areas of Springfield are currently under construction. Due to the ever-changing nature of the road work, we ask that you please follow detour signs whenever applicable.
  • Full-sized buses must drop off and pick up from the short-term bus drop-off spot on Chestnut Street. Look for the bus drop-off sign behind the D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts on Chestnut St. Groups will walk through the School Group entrance gate (look for the pink metal arch) next to the bus drop-off sign.
  • Confirm your group’s pick up time in advance. You may want to exchange cell phone numbers to improve communication.
  • Please avoid blocking the entrance/exit to Christ Church Cathedral when dropping-off/picking-up.
  • Buses cannot turn down Edwards Street and cannot park there. If there is no place to drop off or pick up your group on Chestnut Street, please make the loop around Chestnut, Taylor, Dwight and Maple Streets and return to the bus spot.
  • Bus drivers receive free general admission on field trip days. Let staff at the Edwards Street Welcome Center know which school you are driving.

Drop-off Location

From the North

  • I-91 South toward Springfield
  •  After passing Exit 11, take temporary Exit 7-6 onto East Columbus Avenue, following signs for Hall of Fame Avenue. After the rail underpass, bear right onto Hall of Fame Avenue.
  • Turn left onto State St. Go 0.3 mi.
  • Turn right onto Dwight St. Go 0.1 mi.
  • Make sharp left loop onto Maple St. Go 0.1 mi.
  • Continue straight onto Chestnut St. Go 0.2 mi.
  • The bus drop off/pick up spot is on right.

From the South

  • I-91 North toward Springfield.
  • Take Exit 5 onto E Columbus Ave toward Broad St. Go 0.7 mi.
  • Turn right onto Union St. Go 0.4 mi.
  • Turn left onto Maple St. Go 0.2 mi.
  • Continue straight onto Chestnut St. Go 0.2 mi.
  • Bus drop off/pick up spot on right.

From the East

  • I-90 West to exit 6 toward Springfield.
  • Turn left onto I-291 South. Go 2.7mi
  • Take exit 4 toward Chicopee Falls / St. James Ave. Go 0.2mi.
  • Turn left onto Page Blvd. Go 0.1mi.
  • Bear left onto St. James Ave. Go 1.3 mi.
  • Turn right onto State St. Go 0.7 mi.
  • Turn right onto Chestnut St. Go 0.2 mi.
  • Bus drop off/pick up spot on right.

From the West

  • I-90 EAST.
  • Take exit 4 onto I-91 South toward Springfield. Go 7.4 mi.
  • Take Exit 7, Columbus Ave. onto W. Columbus Ave. toward Downtown Springfield. Go 0.5 mi.
  • Turn left onto State St. Go 0.3 mi.
  • Turn right onto Dwight St. Go 0.1 mi.
  • Make sharp left loop onto Maple St. Go 0.1 mi.
  • Continue straight onto Chestnut St. Go 0.2 mi.
  • The bus drop off/pick up spot is on right.

Bus Parking

To the Bus Parking Lot

  • Drive down Chestnut St.
  • Turn left onto Harrison Ave.
  • Turn left onto Dwight St.
  • Turn left onto State St.

Back to the Museums

  • Turn left out of the lot onto State Street.
  • Turn right onto Chestnut Street.
