While literally hundreds of books exist on the subject of maps and cartography, The Art of Illustrated Maps is the first book ever to fully explore the world of “imaginative” mapmaking. Author and map illustrator John Roman explains conceptual mapping’s evolution in history, how and why the human brain so readily accepts to this form of art, and, by way of numerous visual examples, presents the works of the foremost contemporary map artists currently at work in this field of illustration.
