Free and open to the public!
Join Springfield Stars Club members for a free viewing of the partial solar eclipse. Filtered telescopes will be set up on the Quadrangle Green and a limited number of safe eclipse glasses will be distributed to visitors free of charge.
Maximum eclipse will occur at 2:44 pm, with two-thirds of the sun will be covered by the moon. New Englanders will miss the dramatic darkening that observers hundreds of miles to our south will witness, but a partial eclipse of the sun is definitely worth checking out!
Warning: You should NEVER look directly at the sun without using a certified filter manufactured specifically for that purpose. The sun’s intensity can burn and damage your eyes and a telescope or binoculars will magnify that intensity. For more information about safe eclipse viewing, go to https://
