A special day of family programs, co-presented with The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. All activities are free with museum admission!

Special Presentation & Appearances

Meet a Wild Thing, 11 am-3 pm
The enchanting Wild Thing from Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are has captivated audiences of all ages.  Get a hug or high five and take a photo.

Meet the Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and Thing 2, 11 am-3 pm
Get a high five or a hug, and take your photo with the wacky crew.

Storytime with The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, 11:30 am & 1:30 pm
Join us for an interactive reading and exploration of all aspects of the picture book; all ages welcome!

Ongoing Activities

Family Science Adventures, 11 am-2 pm
Explore the Science Museum and find the Roving Scientist. You never know what kind of demonstrations and hands-on activities she has in store for you!

Make Your Own Illustration, 11 am-3 pm
Inspired by Eric Carle’s illustrations in books like The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, create your own collage using different colored and patterned papers.

The Caterpillar Lab, 11 am-3 am
Meet a wide variety of native caterpillars, watch eggs hatch under microscopes, and check out all kinds of specimens from the Caterpillar Lab.

Picture Book Tattoos, 11 am-3 pm
Get a temporary tattoo of one of your favorite picture book characters! (Arms-only, with caregiver permission.)

Make a Wild Crown, noon-4 pm
It’s Maurice Sendak’s birthday! Create a crown like Max wore in Where the Wild Things Are to get ready for your own adventure and celebrate the birthday of one of our favorite authors.
