Commissioning a Classical Work in the 21st Century: Bringing Kenneth Fuchs’ The Spiritualist To Life

March 3, 2016 @ 11:15 am12:15 pm
| Cost: $4 | Cost for Members: $2

One of the highlights of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra concert season is the world premiere of a new piano concerto by Kenneth Fuchs entitled “The Spiritualist.” This work was commissioned by the SSO in 2014, and will be performed by SSO favorite pianist Jeffrey Biegel on Saturday, March 12th, 2016 with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra. In this lecture, we’ll delve into how the commissioning process works in the 21st century – from inspiration to finalization, and all the steps in between. The lecture offers words, music and imagery to tell this fascinating tale.

Presented by Kevin Rhodes, music director, Springfield Symphony Orchestra, and Kenneth Fuchs, UCONN Professor of Music Composition

The audience is invited to bring a lunch to enjoy during the program.
