Historically, employers considered domestic violence as strictly a personal issue. Incidents involving domestic violence are occurring at an alarming rate. Therefore, many American businesses view domestic violence as a work place issue. The Department of Labor reports that victims of domestic violence lose nearly 8 million days of paid work per year in the U.S., resulting in a $1.8 billion loss in productivity for employers. Today, every employer needs to have a policy that addresses the issue of domestic violence.
