Drawing for the painter can be a different approach and mindset than drawing with the intention of creating a “finished drawing”. Sketching and drawing in this way develops the artist’s ability to See on many levels and touch a place of spontaneity and improvisation. Join artist Robert Masla in this fast-moving, fun, and dynamic workshop where exploration is encouraged and there are no mistakes, only opportunities for change, growth, and creative expression. The artists’ sketchbook/journal is a place to explore ideas, experiment, and
practice. Through a variety of demos and exercises, we will learn various approaches to sketching and drawing, from the creation of form through linear
rendering, (think van Gogh, Albrecht Durier), to the tonal approach, (George Inness or Vermeer) to venturing into unchartered territory. We will review the form principle to create the illusion of 3 dimensions with light and shadow as well as explore the ideas behind composition to convey artistic intention, story mood, emotion, etc. We will be experimenting with a variety of drawing materials and learn about the various techniques for handling them.
This workshop is for beginners to advanced artists who wish to charge up their creative batteries and explore keeping an artist’s sketchbook/journal to improve their painting – or just have more confidence and fun drawing and sketching!
