Today’s Highlights

Meet David White, Illustrator, 11 am-1 pm
David White is a Western Massachusetts based artist who specializes in designing giant robots, or mecha, for video games and books. David has contributed concept art to over 15 games including Transformers: War for Cybertron, Mechwarrior 4: Black Knight, and Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries. He has also contributed artwork to many popular “how to draw” books Such as Anime Mania, Mecha Mania, Manga Mania: Video Games, 50 Fantasy Vehicles to Draw and Paint, and 50 Robots to Draw and Paint. Battletech fans may recognize David’s mecha designs from books such as Technical Readout: 3085 and Technical Readout: Prototypes. When not drawing robots, David illustrates children’s books for Scholastic and comics for LEGO Magazine.

Meet LEGO Batman, 11 am-2 pm
Crime-fighting vigilante. Super Hero. Master Builder. LEGO Batman is all of those and so much more. Snap a pic or get a high five from the Caped Crusader.

Eric Benton presents Clever Nonsense, 11 am-2 pm
Join Eric Benton for strolling magic in the Springfield Science Museum. Enjoy interactive sleight of hand and optical illusions using everyday objects like cards, coins, rubber bands, and LEGOs. See the magic up close and maybe even in your own hand!

Ongoing Activities

Museum Bingo, 10 am-3:45 pm
Grab your card in the Welcome Center and check off boxes as you spend your day at the museums! Get four in a row to choose a book in the Art Discovery Center!

SustainABLE Building, 11 am-3 pm
From creative reinvention and changing cities, to future building and ways to protect your neighborhood. Watch a demo from one of our museum educators and play some games to learn about sustainability for our future.

The Brick Lab, 11 am-3 pm
Grab a challenge card or come up with your own creative design as Science Workshop is transformed into our very own Brick Lab. Snap a photo of your creation and share it using the hashtag #atthemuseums.

Duplo Safari, 11 am-3 pm
Perfect for our youngest visitors, use chunkier bricks to create a zoo, a train, or a safari of African animals.

Brick Self-Portraits, 11 am-3 pm
Use LEGOs to create a portrait of yourself. Snap a selfie and share! Then color yourself as a LEGO figure to take home.

Art Discovery Center, 12-4 pm
Chinese characters, try on costumes, play gallery games, peek under lift-up panels on the Wall of Symbols to discover the meaning behind Asian motifs and put on a puppet show. Today’s Art Activity: Printmaking with LEGOs.
