I Spy Butterfly, 1 pm
In this puppet show, Trudy loves all things that creep and crawl and flitter and flutter. When a caterpillar she has befriended suddenly turns into a chrysalis, our heroine must face her fears in order to witness it change into a beautiful butterfly. Interactive staging and live music make this a fun ecological romp through nature!
Gallery Activities
Dissect a Flower, 11 am-1 pm
Learn the parts of a flower and carefully cut and take apart a specimen of your own to see the inner workings of these beautiful plants. Seating for this activity will begin every half hour and small children will need caregiver assistance.
Make Your Own Bouquet, 11 am-1 pm
Get some tips on choosing and arranging flowers and create your own beautiful flower bouquet to take home! Seating for this activity will begin every half hour and small children will need caregiver assistance.
Family Science Adventures, 11 am-2 pm
Explore the Science Museum and find the Roving Scientist. You never know what kind of demonstrations and hands-on activities they have in store for you!
Honey Tasting, 11 am-3 pm
Visit the bees of the Springfield Science Museum and learn how and why these pollinators make honey. Taste test honey made from the pollen that’s been harvested from a variety of plants. Note: Honey is not recommended for children under 1 year old.
Do Touch the Flowers, 11 am-3 pm
While the rest of the flowers across the museums today are artfully arranged and hands-off, these blossoms are hands-ON. What do rose petals feel like? How about carnations? Explore a variety of textures at this do-touch station.
Stop and Smell the Paintings, 11 am-3 pm
Use your sense of smell to connect with works of fine art! Can you guess these scents and match the flower? Use to your nose to explore
Make a Layered Lotus in the Art Discovery Center, noon-4 pm
Chrysanthemums, cherry blossoms, and lotuses are all common themes in the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum. Explore the collection and come created your own lotus art project.
