David Hilliard creates large-scale multi-paneled color photographs, often based on his life and the lives of people around him. His large-scale color panoramas direct the viewer’s gaze across the image surface allowing narrative, time, and space to unfold. Within his images one is invited to consider individual moments within which genres collide, often bringing landscape, portraiture and still life into harmonious union. In this lecture, Hilliard explores his relationship with his father and their photographic collaboration, culminating with the image featured in The Outwin 2022: American Portraiture Today exhibition.
