Whenever we look at a particular painting, we can immediately classify it as coming from the Impressionist School. But how did this style of painting evolve? There are those art historians who suggest that Edouard Manet was the father of the movement, himself inspired by the only woman to play a central role in the movement: Berthe Morisot. This lecture will explore the complex history of the movement along with some of the more well recognized names of artists.
Presented by Dr. Simon Sibelman, Professor Emeritus, French and Holocaust Studies, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh; Executive Director emeritus, Virginia Holocaust Museum; Director Emeritus, Center for Judaic, Holocaust, and Peace Studies, Appalachian State University.
