Investigating Art Forgery with Ty Murphy

November 8, 2020 @ 2:00 pm5:00 pm

Exclusive Virtual Event for Patron Members and Above!

Ty Murphy is a Due Diligence specialist art advisor to ultra-high-net-worth private clients and Family Offices. He is a seasoned investigator and counter-surveillance specialist and worked on a very high level for many years. He was recommended to clients such as Hughes Aircraft during their missile development program by Lloyds of London and worked for a whos who in the finance world.

With those days now behind him, his unique art advisory services provide all the usual art advisory services one would expect. This includes taking clients to art fairs, auctions galleries, arranging for shipping, insurance and even framing and lighting. However, he is tenacious in his approach to protecting his client interests.

Coming from a family of collectors, he recognized a long time ago that the primary methods used by most art professionals to authenticate and attribute art are not sufficient in today’s art world. In a world with ever more sophisticated art forgers and an army of dubious individuals who trade in trust, what was required was an in-depth process which combines all the modern tools and techniques of art due diligence combined with the good old fashioned investigating.

Assume nothing, believe no one and check everything.

Ty created the PAM Test, a comprehensive checklist that applies a “risk-based” approach to determine any issues when clients are buying or investing in fine art that goes far beyond the standard due diligence. The PAM Test means, investigate the People, the Art and the Money.

In this presentation, Ty will talk about real-life situations where clients have been duped by art forgers and situations where art collectors could have avoided forgers, fakes and misattributed art. There will be an overview of Anti Money Laundering legislation worldwide and how this is affecting the art market and the many red flags that are identified in art transactions.

We will see how a real transaction is undertaken by applying the PAM Test, which includes all the modern techniques and resources available to art investigators and how the good old fashioned detective fits into the picture.

This promises to be very exciting and insightful talk.
