From early flying machines to supersonic jet engines, from helicopters to space suit life support systems, New England has played an important role in the history of flight, both past and present. By highlighting the stories of pioneering local aviators such as Frederick Rentschler, Igor Sikorsky, and the Granville Brothers, as well as lesser known contributors to our region’s unique aerospace heritage, this lecture will chronicle over one hundred years of aerospace history in New England with a special focus on Connecticut and Western Massachusetts by drawing from the extensive collections of the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks, CT.
