Opera, the most prestigious and popular form of entertainment in nineteenth century Europe hit its peak in the operas of Verdi and Puccini. New offerings were unveiled yearly and masterpieces like Verdi’s La Traviata and Otello and Puccini’s La Bohème and Madama Butterfly became overnight sensations. Join Guy McLain, History Museum Director and music historian, for an exploration of some of the world’s most popular operas.
