Winter Landscape Painting

Painting Something from Nothing – The Winter Landscape in Watercolor

December 21, 2020 @ 10:00 am3:00 pm
| Cost: $75 | Cost for Members: $65

This is an online class!

During this relaxing Zoom workshop, artist Robert Masla will lead you in the dance of watercolor painting. Literally, the most fluid of all painting media, it is, at its best, a give and take between the artist, the paint and the water. “Watercolor painting is about understanding the symbiotic relationship of the pigment, (the paint), water and the paper, (or whatever substrata you are using) and be willing to bend your intention to its flow.”

There are numerous exercises, techniques and “tricks” the artist can use to manipulate the paint and the image, such as tonal painting, “negative painting,” glazing, etc., and Robert will share some of these, along with exercises in basic principles, to give students a strong foundation and build confidence. Perhaps most fundamental to watercolor is the artist’s ability, as Masla puts it, to “listen to the paint.” Masla will lead students in the techniques and processes that develop this sensitivity while together we paint a winter landscape. Encouraging students to release their fears and struggles with fixed, pre-conceived ideas, Masla will help them to creatively respond to the paint’s choreographic direction. Supply list provided. Each student receives a free canvas, courtesy of Fredrix Canvas!
