The Smith College Museum of Art purchased a drawing by Elisabetta Sirani in early 2020 as part of its collecting strategy to acquire more works of art by women. This talk will provide a close examination of Sirani’s self-portrait to learn more about the artist and her approach to drawing. The work will also be considered within its historical context as well as how it relates to current museum collecting practices.
