The Springfield Science Museum serves as an anchor for science, technology, engineering, and math education in Western Massachusetts. Originally founded as the Springfield Ethnological and Natural History Museum, its collections and features have woven a story of invention, ingenuity, and impact since its doors first opened in 1859. Its success can be attributed to the people who have enthusiastically committed to public education in the field of science over the past one hundred and sixty-plus years, and to a direct line of mentorship that has sustained the institution and continues to inspire the Springfield Science Museum of today. Jenny Powers and Richard Sanderson will share fascinating stories from various periods in the museum’s long and colorful history, concluding with a vision of what the future holds for this beloved institution.
