Meet Thing 1 and Thing 2, 11 am-2 pm
Get a high-five or a hug from this mischievous pair and snap a selfie with them too.

Balloons with Professors Knows A. Lot, 11 am-3 pm
Twisting, bending, shaping balloons – what kind will you choose?

The Roaming Railroad, 11 am-3 pm
Kids and grownups can come take a ride around the Quadrangle on this trackless train! Engineer Dan DeCosmo will entertain riders with comedy, train songs and inspirational routines like “the little train that could.”

Ongoing Activities

Cat’s Corner, 10 am-4 pm
Our Dr. Seuss-themed drop-in space on the Lower Level of the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum. Stop in to read some of Ted Geisel’s original stories along with lots of other picture books, plus take part in facilitated art and literacy activities.

Hands-on Earth and Space Science, 11 am-3 pm

Bicycles: The Great Mobilizing Technology, 11 am-3 pm
Come play a bicycle game and learn how owning a bike helps people get around. Learn about early bicycles and how they gave people greater personal freedom, and see how Springfield has changed since the turn of the 20th century.

Woven Together, 11 am-3 pm
Come learn how to weave yarn (and even yourself!) on three differently sized looms. Participants will contribute to a collaborative weaving project, and children particularly interested in this ancient artform will be able to take small cardboard looms home with them, to continue their artistic exploration.

Art Discovery Center, noon-4 pm
Trace Chinese characters, try on costumes, play gallery games, peek under lift-up panels on the Wall of Symbols to discover the meaning behind Asian motifs, put on a puppet show, and make an art project. Today’s project: Starry Night Swirls, inspired by Van Gogh for All.

Summer Spectacular is sponsored by Charles H. Hall Foundation, a Bank of America Trustee.
