The Mont Blanc massif rises like a fortress of stone and ice, its 11 snow-capped peaks thrusting above 4,000 meters. At 15,800 feet, Mont Blanc itself—the “White Mountain”—reigns as the highest summit in Western Europe, a beacon for adventurers and dreamers alike. Encircling this alpine giant is the famed Tour du Mont Blanc, a 110-mile path that threads through France, Italy, and Switzerland, offering some of the most breathtaking mountain scenery on Earth.
In this lecture, we’ll step onto that trail, exploring the French Alps with their tumbling glaciers, wildflower meadows, and elusive wildlife, while also confronting the stark realities climate change is carving into this fragile landscape. Our journey doesn’t stop there. We’ll descend from the high peaks and travel west to the caves of the Dordogne, where humanity’s first artists left their mark in places like the legendary Lascaux—a reminder that our story has always been bound to the land.
