Women Artists, Creators of their Herstories

October 19, 2023 @ 12:15 pm1:15 pm
| Cost: $4 | Cost for Members: FREE

According to a 2019 study, just 14% of exhibitions at major American museums were of work by women artists. Featuring artworks drawn from the collections of the Springfield Museums, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Fenimore Art Museum, the exhibition As They Saw It: Women Artists Then & Now pushes back against underrepresentation in the arts by celebrating the essential contributions of American women artists working across three centuries. Join two of the exhibition’s co-curators, Martina Tanga and Maggie North, for a discussion about As They Saw It. Tanga and North will share insights about the exhibition planning process and discuss key works of art by Ellen Day Hale, Marisol Escobar, Nampeyo, Faith Ringgold, and others.

Presented by Martina Tanga, curator, art historian, and educator, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and Maggie North, art historian and exhibition co-curator
