Artist Robert Markey will present a two-day Mosaic Workshop for adults at the Springfield Museums on August 7 and 8, from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Participants will work with stone, glass and ceramic tiles and learn the techniques of cutting and grouting to complete two pieces. For more information or to register for the class, call the Museum School at 413.263.6800, ext. 377 or 378.
Markey will also lead a public art project to install a large mosaic on a blank wall which was exposed when Shannon's Pub was torn down on the corner of Chestnut and Winter streets in downtown Springfield. The project will take place from August 11 to15 and is being coordinated by the Armoury-Quadrangle Civic Association (AQCA). Teens and adults interested in volunteering for the project should call AQCA at 413.747.1830 or email aqca@kimballtowers.com.
