The Springfield Museums and WGBY Public Television are pairing up to present “The Buzz about Bees Family FunFest” on Friday, August 27, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the museums.
The event will celebrate the launch of the upcoming PBS series The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!™ with activities for kids and families. “Show Me the Honey,” the first episode of the new science-based series, will be shown in the museum auditorium and is the inspiration for the day’s activities.
The first 500 children will receive a free Dr. Seuss book courtesy of generous contributions from the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation and Link To Libraries.
- Performance, 1 p.m.: “Uncle Rock” is singer-songwriter, actor, teacher and former stay-at-home dad Robert Burke Warren. His “Rock of All Ages” songs draw inspiration from Maurice Sendak, Woody Guthrie and Shel Silverstein — with a bit of classic rock thrown in. He has received rave reviews from the New York Times, the New York Post, Los Angeles Times and Parenting magazine.
- Meet a bee keeper and learn about the real bee hive in the Springfield Science Museum.
- Look for bees in the museum exhibits.
- Have a taste of something sweet at a honey market hosted by local bee keepers.
- Make bee craft projects.
- Try on glasses that make you see like a bee.
- Greet the Cat in the Hat and costumed bee characters as they travel through the museums.
Admission is free for members of WGBY and the Springfield Museums as well as for Springfield residents with proof of address. Tickets otherwise are $12.50 for adults, $6.50 for children ages 3 to 17, and $9 for seniors and college students.
