Spend February Vacation with Creepy Crawly Critters

The Springfield Museums have planned a week of family fun during February school vacation. “Creepy Crawly Critters” activities will be offered Monday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 24, from 10 am-5 pm and are free with museum admission unless noted.


Scheduled Activities
Monday, Feb. 20

  • 10:45 am-12:45 pm – Hooray for Herps by Teaching Creatures, a live animal demonstration with reptiles and amphibians.
  • 1 pm – Creepy, Crawly BUGS Bonanza by Mister G, singing and dancing to tunes about worms, frogs, fireflies, crocodiles, sharks and centipedes. (pictured)

Tuesday, Feb. 21

  • 11 am-noon – Reptile and Amphibian Encounter, live animal demonstration.
  • 1 pm – Live Birds of Prey presented by Wingmasters.

Wednesday, Feb. 22

  • 10:45 am-12:45 pm – Hooray for Herps by Teaching Creatures, a live animal demonstration with reptiles and amphibians.
  • 1 pm – The Elephant Child by the Puppet People, a colorful performance with hand puppets, marionettes, and soft sculpture scenery.

Thursday, Feb. 23

  • 11 am-noon – Reptile and Amphibian Encounter, live animal demonstration.
  • Noon and 2 pm – The Bug Show by the Toe Jam Puppet Band, funny songs and stories about ants, spiders, worms, and a mouse that lives in Tom’s house.

Friday, Feb. 24

  • Noon and 2 pm – Bugs! by the Dinoman Science Series, learn all about bugs with a giant costumed bug.

Daily Activities

  • Gallery Science Demonstration, 11 am-2 pm – Discover the wonders of science through hands-on activities.
  • Scavenger Hunts, 10 am-4:45 pm – Explore the galleries and locate things in the art and history museums.
  • Planetarium Shows, 11:15 am, noon, 1& 2 pm – Embark on an outer space adventure (additional fee).
  • Art Activities, 10:30 am-1 pm – Color animal tails or design your own critter.
  • Art Activities, noon-3:45 pm – Design your own crawly spiders.

Special Exhibits

  • Frogs: A Chorus of Colors, a variety of exotic live frogs from around the world on view in fifteen different habitats filled with rock ledges, live plants and waterfalls. ($5 special exhibit fee for all visitors ages 3 and up in addition to museum admission.)
  • Old Masters to Monet: Three Centuries of French Painting from the Wadsworth Atheneum,  ($10 special exhibition fee for adults, $5 for children ages 12-17 in addition to museum admission.) Note: A combination ticket to see both special exhibits is $12.50 for adults and $7.50 for ages 12-17.
