Museums Offer Free Admission on Museum Day Live!

The Springfield Museums will once again open their doors free of charge on Saturday, September 26, 2015, as part of Smithsonian Magazine’s eleventh annual Museum Day Live! On that day, the Museums and a host of others across the United States will emulate the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington-based facilities by offering free admission to those who download a Museum Day Live! ticket.

Inclusive by design, the event represents Smithsonian’s commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone. Last year’s event drew over 400,000 participants, and this year’s event is expected to attract more museumgoers than ever before.

“We’re honored to join with the Smithsonian and other prestigious institutions across the nation in this worthwhile effort,” commented Kay Simpson, Interim President of the Springfield Museums, adding “The multi-faceted nature of our collections, from priceless works of fine art to exhibits on science and transportation history, mirrors the diversity on display at the Smithsonian’s many facilities.”

To participate, visitors must download and present a Smithsonian Day Live! ticket, which is valid for free entrance for up to two people at participating venues on September 26, 2015 only. The ticket may be downloaded at Smithsonian.com/museumday. One ticket, per household, per email address is permitted.

For more information about the Museum Day Live! event and a full list of participating cultural institutions can also be found at Smithsonian.com/museumday.
