Springfield Jazz & Roots Family Fun

Join the us in the Wood Museum of Springfield History as we celebrate the 8th Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival with fun activities for the whole family, culminating in the historic Second Line Parade which will kick off the Festival. Free and open to the public! Admission is not required for the History Museum and the activities below.

Horn Man: The Life and Musical Legacy of Charles Neville, 10 am-5 pm
Tour this exhibit that celebrates of the life of the Grammy-winning R&B and jazz musician and Massachusetts resident Charles Neville through personal mementos, musical instruments, photographs, and, of course, his music. Learn More

Paper Saxophones, 10:30 am-12:30 pm
Make a paper saxophone in preparation for the Second Line Parade.

Percussion Workshop, 11:30 am
Lead by Berkshire Bateria, this all-ages rhythmic workshop will introduce participants to the New Orleans Second Line tradition as things handed off to parade leader (and New Orleans native) Henri Smith.

Second Line Parade, 12:30 pm
Starting at the Wood Museum of Springfield History, dance your way through the streets to Stearns Square and the stage of the Festival kick-off performance by Henri Smith & New Orleans Friends and Flavours.

Note: If you plan to attend the Jazz & Roots Festival, event organizers suggest parking in the Stearns Square vicinity.
