Although rodent-catching is often associated with cats, dogs were also adept at pursuing the unwanted creatures. Currier & Ives created many prints that illustrated animals hunting. Dogs are often depicted scampering around the farm in the classic scenes. A Chip of the Old Block captures a “teaching moment” between a dog and its young pup. The puppy has just caught a rat and is holding the rodent in its mouth while the seasoned hunter observes its technique.
