Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait was an avid outdoorsman and hunter and often created wilderness scenes for Currier & Ives. He was especially intrigued with birds and created detailed studies of different species. In this hunting scene, two men crouch beneath a camouflaged shelter made of branches. One points his gun at pigeons perched on the branches of a dead tree. A powder horn in a hat and several dead pigeons lie at the hunters’ feet.
