The Springfield Museums have announced the winners of the “Dr. Seuss Takes the Cake” contest which was held at the museums on March 6 during a Weekend Family Fun program celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss.
Local bakeries designed and donated cakes with a Dr. Seuss theme, and Museum visitors voted for their favorite. A free drawing was held to give away the cakes following the contest.
The first place winner was Sweety Cakes of Chicopee. Second place went to Sugar D.L.’s Baked Goods of Ludlow, and Auntie’s Custom Cakes of Springfield took third place.
The other contest entrants were Atkins Farms Country Market, Amherst; Big Y World Class Market, Ludlow store #19; Carolyn’s Sweet Tooth, Granby, Mass.; Johnsens Catering, Wilbraham; and Stinky Cakes, a Springfield business which made a novelty “cake” out of new disposable diapers and toy characters from Dr. Seuss books.
Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel) was born in Springfield on March 2, 1904. The Springfield Museums celebrate his birthday every year.
Weekend Family Fun programs are sponsored by TD Bank.
