Dancing Partners: Moving Color Reliefs, an exhibit of mixed-media work by Henry Klein of Adams, Mass., will be on view from Jan. 30 through April 29, 2007, in the Community Gallery at the Springfield Museum of Fine Arts.
Dancing Partners are abstract applications of color on a honeycomb-textured plastic surface. The textured surface restricts the viewer's point of view to a small patch of color which appears to move around and change size as the viewer changes perspective. The pieces are done in pairs in which Klein identifies the pink-colored "dancing partner" as female and the blue as male. Klein has had solo shows at galleries in Adams, Northampton, New York City, New Haven and other venues. His work has also been included in a number of group shows, including exhibits at the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, the Contemporary Artists Center in North Adams, and Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
