Celebrate Dr. Seuss’s 106th Birthday at the Springfield Museums

The Springfield Museums’ Weekend Family Fun series will continue on Saturday, March 6, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. with a Birthday Hoedown for Dr. Seuss. The snow date is Sunday, March 7. Theodor Seuss Geisel was born in Springfield on March 2, 1904.


Weekend Family Fun programs are sponsored by T.D. Bank. Activities are free with museum admission.

 

Performance:

     Whoop it up with the Toe Jam Puppet Band’s “Big Toe Hoedown.” (2 p.m.)

 

Ongoing activities:

     Free red bandanna to the first 100 visitors.

     Meet the Cat in the Hat.

     Make a Seussian craft (noon-3:45 p.m.)

     Go on scavenger hunts in the art and history museums. (11 a.m.-3:45 p.m.)

     Design your own farm mobile. (11:30 a.m.-3 p.m.)

      “Dr. Seuss Takes the Cake” contest. Stop by between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and vote for your favorite Seuss-themed cake decorated and donated by area bakeries. The winner will be announced at 2:45 p.m. (Cake will not be served, but a free drawing will be held for the cakes.)

     Experiment with science, see a planetarium show, visit the Black Holes exhibit and more.
