Join the Springfield Museums Saturday March 3rd for an all-day, record-breakin’, green-eggs and ham eatin’, Cat in the Hat meetin’ fabulous celebration of Springfield-native Dr. Seuss’s birthday! Plus, the Museums have twelve hundred Seuss Learning Library books to give away; one is waiting for you!
In addition to meeting the Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2, and the Grinch, visitors will get an opportunity to meet author Tish Rabe who in 1996 was selected by Dr. Seuss Enterprises to create The Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library, a new line of rhyming science books for early readers. In honor of the Springfield Museums’ birthday celebration, Tish Rabe crafted a poem:

Our Dr. Seuss Birthday Party is an annual favorite full of wacky, fun, crazy, and sometimes delicious activities. This is our biggest celebration ALL YEAR and we are opening the Springfield Science Museum and the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum an hour early at 9 am! 10:00-3:30 Dr. Seuss Cakes & Decorations – See the real cakes and alternative creations throughout the galleries in every building, including a Seussian ice sculpture on the Quadrangle.
10:30-3:30 Meet the Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and Thing 2 – Get a high five and take your photo with this wacky crew.
10:30-2:30 Meet Tish Rabe & Receive a Free Book—Tish Rabe has written over 160 children’s books for Sesame Street, Disney, Blue’s Clues, Curious George, Huff and Puff, and many others. In 1996—five years after the death of Dr. Seuss—she was selected by Dr. Seuss Enterprises to create The Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library, a new line of rhyming science books for early readers. Each child 12 and under will receive one free copy of The Thinga ma Jigger is Coming Today or Thump/The Lost Egg. While supplies last, additional books are available for purchase in the Museum Store.
10:30-3:30 Meet the Grinch—This lovable curmuggeon has come down from Mount Crumpit for one day only, to celebrate his creator’s birthday!
12:00 and 2:00 Mr. Vinny’s Little Puppet Show—Very interactive! Full of stories! Silly and surprising! Kids use their heads to help him tell the story of “The 12 Lil’ Pigs and the Big Bad Pineapple.” He’s amazed at how good they are at a game called “What’s that Shadow.” Imagination! Participation!
10:30-2:30 Color a Stovepipe Hat—Use fabric markers to design and then wear your very own felt hat fit for a cat! While Supplies Last.

12-4 Art Discovery Center 2nd Floor, George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum Trace Chinese characters, try on costumes, play gallery games, peek under lift-up panels on the Wall of Symbols to discover the meaning behind Asian motifs, put on a puppet show, and make an art project. Today’s Project: Make a Wearable Polka Dot Bow Tie.
