The Springfield Science Museum will celebrate Earth Day with the annual Earth Day Festival on April 20 followed by "It's Cool to be Green," a week of Earth-friendly school vacation week activities. Activities are free with museum admission unless noted.
Earth Day Festival – Sunday, April 20 11 a.m.-3 p.m.: Environmental songs by the Blue Grass band known as "The Boys of the Landfill". Noon: Live owls, hawks and other majestic birds of prey presented by Tom Ricardi of the Massachusetts Bird of Prey Rehabilitation Program. Ongoing, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Paper making. Renewable energy and solar power demonstrations. Free tree seedlings from the Springfield Forestry Division. Demonstrations of environmental projects by students from the High School of Science & Technology. Free ice cream from Friendly's. Environmental exhibits by the ReStore Home Improvement Center, SolarWrights, Suncrafts, Springfield High School of Science and Technology, Springfield DPW, Springfield Water & Sewer Commission, Springfield Forestry Division, Mass Wildlife Angler Education Program, Pioneer Valley Aquarium Society, ECOS, Starbucks Coffee Company, Keep Springfield Beautiful campaign, Western Massachusetts Electric Company, Hampshire College, Girl Scout Jr. Troupe 2232 and Brownie Troupe 2225. It's Cool to be Green – April 21-25 Performances: Monday, April 21, 1 p.m. – The Penguin Lady presents "Penguins! Fascinating Facts and Tantalizing Trivia." Tuesday, April 22, 1 p.m.- Purple Rock Productions presents "Mother Nature Tells All." Wednesday, April 23, 1 p.m. – JuggleJoy explains some easy way to keep the earth clean and green in "Reduce, Reuse Reunicycle." Thursday, April 24, 1 p.m. – Magician BJ Hickman journeys through and A to Z list of "Recycling Magic." Friday, April 25, 1 p.m. – Marmalade Productions performs "The Watershed Waltz," the story of a boy, his mother, and an array of friendly creatures.
