Family fun is in store for visitors to the Springfield Museums from July 5 through August 13 during “Summer Festival Days,” six-weeks of live performances, puppet shows, art activities, and hands-on science activities.
The series will kick off July 5-9 with “Pirates and Princesses Week.” Activities are free with the price of museum admission unless noted. Summer Festival Days is sponsored in part by Berkshire Bank.
Monday, July 5
Decorate a pirate picture frame, noon-3:45 p.m.
Tuesday, July 6
Performance, 1 p.m.: Sea Story by Rosalita’s Puppets – In this delightful marionette show, a pirate is caught in a storm and ends up at the bottom of the sea where he is discovered by a mermaid.
Wednesday, July 7
Performance, 1 p.m.: A Pirate’s Life by Julie & Brownie – Take a voyage on the Bonnie Lady, an 1850s clipper ship, and learn about life at sea with some lively sea songs.
Thursday, July 8
Design a pirate picture frame, noon-3:45 p.m.
Friday, July 9
Performance, 1 p.m.: The Banana Princess by Galapagos Puppets – A monk and his followers find their path to India blocked by a blazing mountain of fire and the Banana Princess’s magical fan is the only thing that can put it out.
Daily Activities:
See the special exhibit of LEGO® sculptures, The Art of the Brick, at the D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts and create your own LEGO masterpieces in The Brick Lab at the Science Museum. (additional fee)
Hands-on Family Science Adventures, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Planetarium shows, 11:15 a.m., noon, 1 & 2 p.m., Science Museum (additional fee).
Scavenger Hunts, 11 a.m.-3:45 p.m.
Pan for gems and minerals at the Museum Mining Company, noon-3:45 p.m. (additional fee)
