The Springfield Museums’ Summer Celebration series continues August 8-12 with live performances presented at 1 pm on Toe-Tapping Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, and Fun Friday, plus the LittleFest celebration of children’s literature on Thursday.
Activities are free with the price of museum admission unless noted. Summer Celebration is sponsored in part by Berkshire Bank.
LittleFest is presented in conjunction with WGBY-57 and the Springfield City Library. The event is supported in part by the Irene E. and George A. Davis Foundation.
Daily Activities, August 8-12
- See a huge, moving robotic Tyrannosaurus rex, dig for fossils, and control your own computer-simulated dinosaur in the special exhibit Be the Dinosaur. (additional fee)
- Hands-on Family Science Adventures, 10 am-1 pm
- Planetarium Shows, 11:15 am, noon, 1 pm, and 2 pm (additional fee)
- Art-making activity: Make a Barnyard Bookmark, noon-3:45 pm
- Pan for gems and minerals in the Museum Mining Company’s river sluice (additional fee)
Tuesday, August 9
- Performance: Sounds of South America by MarKaMusic – A musical blend of native, European, West African and North American music, 1 pm
Wednesday, August 10
- Performance: “Pantomonium” by Double Vision Theatre Company – A magical mixture of circus illusion, mime, and sign language, 1 pm
Thursday, August 11 – LittleFest: A Celebration of Children’s Literature
- Book give-aways for the first 500 visitors
- Special appearance by Martha from the book and PBS Kids show “Martha Speaks”
- “Reading Magic” performance by storyteller and musician John Porcino, 10:30 am and 1 pm
- “Rock and Read” musical reading show by Brian Chevalier, 11:30 am and 2 pm
- Lunch concession, 11 am-2 pm
Friday, August 12
- Performance: Seafaring Extravaganza Family Show by the Bawdy Buccaneers – A high energy pirate show with traditional sea shanties and songs, 1 pm
